A horse lover all her life, Penny grew up in Missouri usually riding bareback with a halter and rope. She began taking lessons and showing with her kids at a local hunter barn in 1992. With the purchase of their first Paint horses in 1996 they became huge fans of all around competition traveling to Open, Paint, Pinto and Quarter horse shows. A former country music DJ in Dallas and Austin, Penny occasionally announces at area shows. She also enjoys a 25 year career in the fitness industry as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. She owns and operates Graymar Farm, a full service boarding facility near Dripping Springs. Penny considers it an honor to care for the incredible equines and their human companions at Graymar.
Kelly Haydon - Vice President
Kelly trains people and horses in Marble Falls for Cutting, Reining, Western Pleasures, Hunt Seat and Performance. She shows in NCHA, AQHA, and APHA competitions. Her husband Russell works in horses and their three boys Zachary, Jarrett and Luke are actively involved in riding and showing
Mary Ellen Barak - Second Vice President
Mary Ellen is a native of central Texas, raised in Westlake Hills and Dripping Springs. Her love of horses came from her mother and grandmother. She began riding at an early age and started showing hunters in her early teens. After about 30 years of training and showing hunters, Mary Ellen transitioned to Quarter horses. She has been showing quarter horses off & on for the past 15 years. Currently she has two horses, a retired hunter and her quarter horse Clint that she shows in open and AQHA shows.
Pam Christianson - Secretary
Being a life-long Central Texas resident, Pam discovered the joy of having horses later in life. After giving up her career of teaching, Pam decided to take up riding. With the help of several CAQHA friends, she bought a horse and jumped right into learning all she could about horse care and showing. She now has three horses and is beginning to show in AQHA shows. Her goals are to enjoy this magnificent animal and have fun!
Donna Arnett - Treasurer
Donna is a founding member of CAQHA, and has served as our President and a Board member before becoming Treasurer several years ago. She is retired from the State. She enjoys trail riding and coordinating AQHA sponsored trail rides to benefit therapeutic riding groups. She lives in Leander with husband Ron.
Kasha Ford - Board Member
Kasha is a lifelong horse enthusiast having competed in everything from 3 Day Eventing through Gymkhana as a youth. Now, as a “slightly” more sedate middle-aged Mom, she enjoys trail riding and competing in All Around events with her 2 Paints while helping her 2 daughters & husband with their QH mare. Kasha is also a co-founder of Silver Buckle Services a boutique Equine Marketing, Advertising & Design firm. Kasha and her family reside in a horse-friendly subdivision in Georgetown, Texas.
Penny Lepin - Board Member
My love for horses started when I was a young girl. I was involved in local shows and play days. As I grew up got married and had 2 girls, I became to busy for horses. Once they were old enough I bought them their first horse, which enabled me to get back into riding. My children and I are currently involved in many horse clubs and activities. I enjoy taking them to shows where we compete in all around events and ranch versility. When not riding I keep busy running a mortgage company for City Bank.
Debra Spellings - Board Member
Husband Kyle Humphries and Debra, live in Hutto, TX. Horses, guineas, and peacocks manage us. They have a quarter horse, six paint/quarter cross, and a token Shetland pony named Flash. As a kid, her dad indulged a passion by helping to show in western pleasure and saddle bred/gated horse shows. As an adult, she find just being in the barn very relaxing. They are owner/operators of an employee benefits brokerage firm. The Austin Business Journal recently ranked their firm in the Top 5.
Vicki Barker - Board Member
Vicki is a long time CAQHA member. Although she has competed in both English and Western venues, for the past decade she has limited her riding to reining competitions in both AQHA and NRHA.
When not riding she is a 6th grade math teacher in Georgetown Kathy Hinze - Board Member
Originally from the Florida coast, Kathy has lived in Texas over 25 years. She earned her BSN from TCU and is by profession a Registered Nurse, however, currently is a busy stay-at-home Mom. She and her family live in far NW Austin with their horses, chickens, dogs and cats. She is grateful to have such a loving and supportive family. Kathy says, “I’ve loved horses my entire life!” She has been a member of CAQHA for a number of years and is proud to serve on the board of directors.
