Without a doubt our favorite annual event is the presentation of scholarships awarded to our CAQHA youth! Two of our 3 recipients for 2020 were presented with their $1,000 scholarships at our Ranch Horse Show on June 13.
Gracie Moreland, a recent high school graduate with a 4.0 GPA, has been a part of CAQHA since 2016. In addition to participating in our shows, Gracie has served on our Youth Advisory Committee since 2018 as well as worked as a volunteer at our shows. In addition to volunteering with CAQHA, Gracie volunteers for LOPE (Lonestar Outreach to Place Ex-Racers), a Central Texas non-profit that specializes in rehabilitating ex racehorses for adoption and educating teens on natural horsemanship. Gracie will be attending Colorado State University in the fall majoring in Environmental Science and Sustainability. She will remain involved with horses as she recently started her 3 year old Quarter Horse youngster and ‘Mae’ will travel to Colorado with Gracie to continue riding and groundwork training.
Luke Haydon, a Junior at Texas A & M University – Kingsville, is the recipient of our $1,000 Service and Legacy Scholarship. Luke has been a member, exhibitor and volunteer with CAQHA since he was 8 years old. He continues to compete and volunteer at our Ranch Horse Shows where we now have him doing the heavy lifting duties like carrying logs, bridges and gates for our trail patterns. At TAMUK Luke volunteers with the collegiate rodeo team and when home in Marble Falls he volunteers with the Burnet County 4- Horse Club. Luke will graduate in 2021 with a BS in Agribusiness and a minor in Military Science and Marketing. At graduation he will be commissioned into the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant with plans to attend aviation school and become an Army pilot. Once his time with the military is completed, he plans to return to the civilian world as an Ag Lender or Ag Economist helping businesses, ranchers and farmers.
We will tell you more about our third recipient, Sabine Lazo, when we get to present her with a BIG scholarship check at the Classic Horse Show in August! Congratulations to all three of these outstanding young adults!
Big THANKS to everyone who came out to show!
And to our judge, Bobby Hunt, who started at 8 AM and, with the exception of arena drags, worked straight through until 7:30 PM!  THANK YOU Bobby for judging this full day filled with terrific horses and the humans who love them.
Finally, special thanks to our amazing volunteers who work tirelessly to make these shows happen and to the BEST show secretaries (Bonnie & Jenny) and scribe (Abigail) ever!
