March Newsletter

It’s March and we are celebrating!  March 2nd our state celebrated Texas Independence Day, and what a great state we live in.  The title of a Gary P. Nunn song, “What I Like About Texas” got me thinking about all that is great about our state. Where can you live and enjoy a beautiful, warm, and sunny day in February and the next day have four inches of snow on the ground? Where else can you enjoy wild flowers blooming in March and still be seen in late fall? Where can you live where rodeos are being held, within driving distance, 10 months out of the year?  What do non-Texans think about our state? Everyone is wealthy due to oil wells, herds of cattle, and lots of land. No, but our economy is one of the strongest in our nation. Everyone wears boots, jeans, and big hats. Not always, but do when we are working, riding, and having a good time. And, everyone one in Texas has a horse.  My reply to that would be… only the lucky ones. Happy Birthday Texas! We love ya!

April 9th I will be volunteering out at Still Creek Ranch.  This ranch is a non-profit child care provider and boarding school operated by donations. Still Creek accepts children from all over Texas that, for various reasons, need a home. It is also home to 4-H animals and the resident children participate in the local 4-H program. Still Creek Ranch children are given the responsibility of caring for and loving the donated horses that live there. On April 9th the Texas A&M Equestrian Team will be conducting a horsemanship/trail clinic and horse show for the kids. This program needs horse related items for the children. While doing your barn “spring cleaning” look for items that you could donate to this program. Needed are: halters, bridles, work pads, blankets, sheets, bits, spurs, belts, belt buckles, horse toys, saddles, brushes, hats and boots. Look around your place for anything! You can give these items to me anytime and be certain that I will get them to Still Creek Ranch.

Check out all the photos from our January show on the Photo page of our website.  Also, our high point rules for the Saddle series are posted on the site under the Point Standings page, along with the show bill  under the Shows Page for our first show of the series on May 8th.

Saddle up and enjoy this Texas springtime.
