The breeze blowing through the Expo Center kept humans and horses comfortable on Saturday, Aug. 7^th at the CAQHA final show of the summer series. We had a great turnout, met lots of new exhibitors and enjoyed hosting the Novice Amateur and Novice Youth Quarter Horse classes. Thanks to everyone for making this summer show series so much fun!! Open Show, Novice QH Show & Horsemanship Clinic, Saturday, Aug. 7 – Join us!!

Final Open Show of the Summer Series features Novice QH classes!

The Capitol Area Quarter Horse Association’s Open Show on Saturday, August 7^th also features Quarter Horse classes for Novice Youth and Novice Amateur exhibitors! The open show offers the popular walk/trot classes in all divisions and exhibitors are able to cross over into the walk/trot/canter classes as well.

In addition to the daily high point awards for the open show divisions, there will be terrific high point awards for the Novice Quarter Horse divisions. Go to the Shows page to download a showbill and entry forms. Exhibitors are also welcome to arrive Friday night. There are RV hookups and stalls available and we’ll be there from 3:30 to 8:30 PM to help you get settled. You may also bring your own shavings.

Horsemanship Clinic – Sat., Aug. 7^th at the show!!

From 8 AM – 10 AM the day of the show, professional horsewoman Janie Welborn will be leading a clinic on horsemanship. This is a terrific opportunity to learn from the best!! Correct horsemanship is the foundation for equitation, trail, western riding and more. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to learn while at the show! The fee for the clinic is $20 payable at the show. If you know you are going to participate in the clinic, please email pennygoff@hughes.net so that we have a count. Exhibitors who wish to show in the halter classes will be excused from the clinic for their halter class and can return to the clinic when their class is over. We promise we won’t let anyone miss their halter classes!

June Show A Big Success!

The second show in our Saddle Series was a big success with exhibitors and horses all enjoying a pleasant day in spite of the high humidity. The wonderful breeze that blows constantly at the Expo Center kept everyone smiling and the horses comfortable. The Expo Center staff did a terrific job in keeping the main arena and trail arena dust free! Congratulations to these high point winners pictured left to right: Amanda – High Point in the Green Horse division, Margot – Reserve High Point in the 14 – 18 division, and Julie – High Point in the 13 and under division.

Get ready to show!!

Our 2nd show of the Saddle Series is Sat., June 26th and we have some fantastic daily high point awards, in addition to our series awards. When you check out the showbill (under the Shows page) you’ll notice we’ve added – by popular request – an all ages hunter hack class. If you are going for any of the series awards, the point standings from the May 8th show are also posted on this site (see the Point Standings page). We look forward to seeing you!

Our next show in the series will be on Saturday, June 26^th at the Travis County Expo Center. By popular request, we have added a hunter hack class that will be open to all ages with a maximum jump height of two feet. This class is a great opportunity to practice for competing in hunter hack at the breed shows. We look forward to seeing all of you on June 26^th.

Saddle Series Open Shows

Our show is less than a week away! This is the first show of our Saddle Series. We will have daily high point awards for the show as well. Please note that this is NOT a buckle show – but the high point awards for May 8th are terrific! If you plan on competing for the Series High Point or Reserve High Point awards, please review the High Point Award Rules. You can find the High Point Award Rules under the Point Standings page on this website. We’ll have these rules posted at the show on Saturday too. Membership in CAQHA is a requirement and you can join at the show when you are signing up for classes.

The dates for our spring/summer Open Show Saddle Series have been set so mark your calendars! Our first show will be on Saturday, May 8th followed by Saturday, June 26th and Saturday, August 7th. These shows are open to all breeds and we promise a great time for all exhibitors, their families and friends! These shows are PAC and OIEP approved. Watch for specific details on each show in upcoming CAQHA newsletters. The June show will feature a Hunter Hack classes! The August show will also feature the TQHA Novice Show classes! If you are a Novice Youth or Novice Amateur exhibitor you can check out the TQHA website for more information on the 2010 Novice Show for quarter horse exhibitors in Texas. The January show was a tremendous success for all exhibitors for several reasons: the weather was great with mild temperatures and no rain and, for many of us, we enjoyed riding in a dry arena – something that has been almost impossible over the past month, unless you are lucky enough to have a covered pen to practice in! High Point Announcement

In order to show for High Point or participate in the clinics you must be a current CAQHA member. All annual memberships expired December 31st, 2009 unless you joined/renewed at the last show, August 30 or later. You can check your membership card for your expiration date or contact gabrielshorntx@gmail.com if you’re not sure when your membership expires. You can download a membership form from the Membership page; please take a few moments to complete and return with your dues. It will really save you time in the show office, and you won’t miss out on participating for awards if you get rushed the morning of the show and forget to renew!
